Our mission: tackling today’s environmental crisis
Across the globe, forests are disappearing at an alarming rate. Climate change is accelerating, biodiversity is declining, and pollution continues to damage the ecosystems we all depend on. These interconnected issues form what the United Nations calls the ‘triple planetary crisis’ and they are already impacting millions of lives, from extreme weather events to rising food insecurity.
In the face of this reality, it’s easy to feel powerless. However at Treeapp, we believe the opposite is true: that when individuals and businesses are given the tools to take action, real change can happen. Treeapp exists to make climate action accessible. For individuals, our app allows anyone to support tree planting each day for free, simply by watching a short ad. For businesses, we integrate tree planting into their customer experience, operations, or employee engagement strategies.
Every tree planted through Treeapp represents a commitment to restoring ecosystems, supporting communities, and slowing the pace of climate change. Our mission is to make reforestation an accessible movement that everyone can be part of.
We know that the scale of the climate crisis demands urgent action. But we also know that everyday efforts, when multiplied by thousands, can lead to powerful and lasting impact. That’s the foundation Treeapp was built on - and it’s what continues to guide us forward.
A milestone worth celebrating: 5.5 million trees planted
In just a few years, the Treeapp community has reached a milestone that once felt ambitious: planting over 5.5 million trees across 20+ countries. This achievement is the result of a collective effort, driven by thousands of individuals and an ever-growing network of mission-aligned businesses.
Through our mobile app, people can contribute to reforestation in just a few taps - simply by watching a short ad. This simple and accessible action has been repeated thousands of times each day by people who care about making a difference.
Alongside this, businesses have played a key role by integrating automated tree planting into their operations. For example, by funding trees for every product sold or every new customer. These collaborations show how sustainability can become part of everyday business decisions, without complexity.
This milestone reflects the significance of everyday actions tied to long-term change and the collective commitment of individuals and organisations to restore the planet.
Climate benefits: what trees really do
Trees are one of the most effective natural tools we have to combat climate change. As they grow, they absorb carbon dioxide and store it both above and below ground - helping reduce global emissions while restoring damaged ecosystems.
The trees planted through Treeapp are expected to absorb around 599,500 tonnes of CO₂ over their lifetime. That’s roughly the same as 900,000 return flights between London and New York! But climate impact isn’t only about how many trees are planted, it’s also about what species are chosen for each particular location.
In Greece, we plant fire-resistant carob and cypress trees to reduce the risk of future wildfires. In Haïti and Indonesia, mangroves help protect coastlines from flooding and erosion. And in the UK, native broadleaf species like oak, birch and hazel are being restored to expand woodland and reconnect habitats.
Each site is different and every species plays a role. Together, these trees are helping to cool the planet, rebuild biodiversity, and support long-term climate resilience.
Community impact: people-powered reforestation
Beyond environmental restoration, tree planting initiatives aim to empower and support the local communities intertwined with these ecosystems. Every project we support is designed to bring environmental and social benefits together.
So far, our planting projects have created over 55,000 workdays for local communities. From seed collection to site preparation and long-term maintenance, reforestation creates stable, fairly paid jobs in areas that often face high levels of economic insecurity.
Each of our sites aligns with specific United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) tailored to the unique needs of their regions. In Nepal, planting teams are led by women, providing leadership opportunities and long-term employment. In Kenya, fruit trees like avocado and orange help increase food security. In Burundi, nurseries use biodegradable materials made from banana peels instead of plastic.
By focusing on both people and planet, Treeapp’s projects contribute to healthier environments and stronger communities - now and for the future.
What’s next
Reaching 5.5 million trees is just the beginning. Our goal is to make it possible for anyone, anywhere, to take part in reforestation - no matter their budget or background.
This year, we launched a fully localised version of Treeapp in France. It’s an important step toward expanding access to the app, and part of a broader vision to make climate action more accessible across new countries and communities.
Having established partnerships with 1500+ businesses, we are focused on further expanding our network to amplify our efforts. By collaborating with more companies, we can increase the scale of our reforestation efforts while helping organisations meet their sustainability goals in a tangible, lasting way.
As Treeapp continues to grow, our mission stays the same: to make climate action easy, meaningful, and accessible - and to ensure that every tree planted supports both people and planet.
